Contents of Box:
Alpha Brain Wave Trainer with Velcro headband and electrodes attached, headphones, and a tube of electrode gel. Unit is supplied with a 9-volt battery already inside unit.

First examine the unit, you will see a phone jack labeled headphone.

Next insert headphone plug into headphone jack, making sure plug is securely snapped in place.

Find a quiet place to sit or lie down free of distractions, not too close to electrical appliances, air condition units or fluorescent lights, as this may cause interference. Now getting as comfortable as possible, loosen clothing, remove shoes, relax breathing. You may prefer to use your own relaxation technique.

Place the Velcro headband on your head, not too tight as to be a discomfort, with the shiny side of the metal electrode disk touching the scalp (skin) on the back of your head.

Separate the hair by spreading and applying electrode gel between the electrode and the scalp. What you are trying to do is to have a good contact with your scalp and the electrode, with electrode gel between them. The gel does not have to be a blob, but enough to make a positive contact with scalp.

Now place some electrode gel on your ear lobe and using the ear clip electrode, clip it on the lobe very carefully, not tight, but comfortable so electrode, lobe, and gel are making good contact.

Now place the headphones on, adjust them to be as comfortable as possible.

*First and "Important" turn the "Sensitivity Knob" all the way to the right (clockwise) to the "Max" position.

Now turn the "Volume / On-Off Knob" to the on position by rotating the knob clockwise till you hear a bee--------ping sound (tone) fairly constant and set the volume to a pleasing level.

*Now "Very Important" you must close you eyes!! Not tight, but closed.* Proceed with your relaxation techniques in whatever manner you desire, and start listening to the tone. Note at this time,  moving  the head, opening and closing the eyes will cause a change in the sound of the tone. It is not a steady tone, but an interupted tone making a fluttering sound.

After a period of settling down without moving and starting to relax you will hear the same fluttering sound occasionally (although you are quiet and not moving around). This is known as occasional alpha, this is when the brain takes a quick rest. This is the sound we want to here! Our objective is to make as many of the fluttering tones as we can group together for as long as we can. You will get familiar with the associated inner feeling of the brain when in this alpha state. You will be able to repeat this feeling much easier and more often as time goes on.

Don't be disappointed. It takes approximately one week to get used to hearing the distracting tone.. (This is part of the biofeedback process.)After that you start producing small burst of the fluctuating tones (Alpha), during the second week  with more prolonged periods of the fluctuating tones (Alpha) with higher amptitude. When the tone fluctuates most of the time you can turn down the amptitude by turning the sensitivity knob down a little (or counter clock wise), in small increments. After time you will not use the Alpha Brain Wave Trainer, you will be able to produce alpha with out biofeedback methods. At the end of your session don't forget to turn the unit off!! (This time frame may vary from one individual to the other.) 

Training period varies from person to person, as well as techniques. Set a standard time in the morning or night, or both. Do NOT vary. Practice is required everyday!! Practice from 15 to 20 minutes each session. Good Luck on your better tomorrow!!

After each session clean both electrodes with alcohol or damp cloth to insure electrode life, and better conductivity with the scalp next session.

The battery in the unit is a 9-volt akline battery and should last for weeks. Don't forget to turn unit off after every use. If in any case the battery becomes weak and the unit is not responsive, remove the 4 screws on unit and replace battery, replace the 4 case screws.

*Important*

Under no circumstances hook this unit to any AC units, or AC adaptors. Do not set unit on any AC appliance or metal surface of any kind. This could be fatal!! Use only 9-volt battery to power this unit!!

Remember nothing is written in stone on training, and always with repetition things become easier.
